Chapter Six

Kade woke up the next morning with self-doubt eating at him. He blinked his eyes, adjusting them to the early morning sunshine. As pack leader, he was constantly being challenged by the rogue wolves. It was a necessity, if he wanted to maintain control of his pack. He had to make sure those who wanted to take him down were kept out. He didn’t have to look over at the other side of the bed to know that Maddox had slipped out of bed and gone to work without stirring him. Kade had slept hard through the night for the first time in months. He was worried about protecting those under his care. How was he supposed to keep his pack, his lover, and everyone who entered the Black Forest safe?

After a quick jog through the forest and shower, Kade got into work on time. The big high rise in downtown overlooked the city. He called a meeting with his beta wolves, knowing that they had to talk about what they could do about the rogue wolves and how to control the situation for everyone’s safety. They were all waiting for him in his office by the time he arrived to work. Kade circled around his big desk and sat down. He was glad to see that Brand had made it in from New York.

Across from him, his beta wolves looked at him, waiting and expecting him to lead. Kade was feeling a little bit lost and unsure of himself today. That was so not like him as a Dom. He was always in control of what he was and what he wanted. He never, ever had anybody tell him how to do anything. Kade knew that some of his wolves were afraid of him while others suspected that he was really a big softy on the inside. Kade knew that he could play things just the right way to get what he wanted accomplished.

Kade sat down behind his desk as his three betas took up positions within his office. “I have a plan.”

“Let’s hear it,” Brand said.

“We’re going to have to police the Black Forest every night until the wolves are driven out. It’s the only way to keep everyone safe.”

Brand crossed his arms. “We’ve tried this before. What’s different this time?”

Kade looked at his betas. They were strong and smart, the perfect combination for getting shit done well and on time. “This time we’re going to break all the rules. They’re not playing by them, so neither will we. I want to find out where they’re bedding down at night. I want to find out who they’re fucking. We’re going to disrupt their lives.”

Brand grinned. “I like the sound of this.”

“So do I,” Ayden agreed.

Kade looked across the room at his other beta. Roman hadn’t said anything at all. Kade lifted his brow. “Roman?”

“They’re out for blood,” Roman said.

Kade knew that this was the only way to protect the pack. “Then it’s blood they will get. Make it happen.
